* Two key challenges concerning African agriculture converge: how will Africa feed its growing population? And how will African agriculture cope with climate change?
* Water harvesting can be a way to overcome these challenges. A wide range of different water harvesting technologies (WHTs) are available, but what practices to recommend and where depends on many factors.
This Action Group will build on the knowledge base developed by the recently completed EU FP7 WAHARA project and the EU FP7 WHaTeR and ongoing ACP-EU AFRHINET projects to assess the upscaling potential for WHTs across Africa considering environmental, economic, cultural and socio-political dimensions.
Aim 1: Co-create knowledge on the applicability of and priority for WHTs across Africa to support food security and enhance food production.
Aim 2: Build a network of people across Africa and Europe interested in the potential of water harvesting for food security and climate change adaptation.
Aim 3: Improve access to local knowledge on the potential of WHTs to contribute to water harvesting, and vice versa enable cross-fertilisation of knowledge about water harvesting between sites, countries and continents. Fold in
